ART: Pecoff and Wight at Wyland

Painter Grant Pecoff and glass sculptor David Wight will debut their latest images this weekend at Wyland Galleries of Key West. Pecoff will showcase his vivid new sea-and-shore-scapes Friday through Sunday, March 11-13, at Wyland’s 102 Duval St. gallery. Wight will unveil new sculpted waves of glass Saturday through Thursday, March 12-17, at the 623 Duval St. gallery.

Both artists will be on hand daily and by appointment to discuss their techniques and inspirations. Pecoff uses unusual colors to depict his land and water scenes, blending the realistic and the abstract. His mastery of light and shadow enhances each canvas. ART: Rote and Quartly Shows at Wyland Galleries

PHOTO: LEOPARDSHADOW— Best known for canvases depicting 20th-century film and music icons, modern romanticist Adam Rote has recently been painting bold, dramatic images like the one pictured here. Rote will unveil his latest paintings Friday through Sunday, March 4-6, at Wyland Galleries of Key West at 623 Duval StTREET.

Steven Quartly will showcase his latest impressionistic vistas at Wyland Galleries of Key West’s 623 Duval St. location Monday through Saturday, March 7-12. He will be on hand daily and by appointment.

Quartly is noted for his intriguing landscapes, seascapes and street scenes as well as dramatic still-life images. Many canvases are inspired by his travels throughout Europe and England, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. Some of his most powerful pieces are painted from photographs or sketches from his travels.

Largely self-taught, Quartly favors the plein air technique used by Charles Mundy and enjoys the creative excitement of mixing on canvas. Also influenced by the paletteknife technique of Howard Behrens, he frequently employs his own palette-knife artistry.

EVENTS: Old Island Art Festival Happens This Weekend

Fine artists from across the United States and Canada are to display their creativity Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27, during the 46th annual Old Island Days Art Festival.

Admission to the two-day juried show is free.

The acclaimed open-air event takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days in Key West’s historic Old Town district. Colorful booths are to stretch along lower Whitehead Street and into the gracious Truman Annex, adjacent to 19th-century homes and museums showcasing the island city’s past.

Participating artists are to exhibit work ranging from watercolors and oil or acrylic paintings to decorative sculpture, mixed-media offerings, collage and photography.

The event is presented by the Key West Art Center, a not-for-profit community art organization. Proceeds help support the center’s programs and maintain the historic 301 Front St. building that houses its gallery.

Sculptor David “Big Wave Dave” Wight will unveil his newest visions in glass at Wyland Galleries of Key West’s 623 Duval St. location Friday through Wednesday, January14-19.

Wight will be on hand daily and by appointment to art meet gallery visitors and discuss the inspirations for his artistry.

He will also reveal the intricate methods he employs to create his shimmering ocean waves from molten glass.

Wight has been fascinated by the ocean’s power and movement since a long-ago trip to the Caribbean. He began sculpting what he calls “small splashes of water,” but soon realized he wanted to capture the ocean’s moving waters at their peak. ART: Artistry in Glass at Wyland Galleries

Head borowski
Wiktor Borowski, of the internationally acclaimed Borowski family of glass sculptors, will showcase his family’s original artistry in glass at Wyland Galleries of Key West’s 102 Duval St. location Monday through Thursday, Nov. 8-11. He will be on hand daily and by appointment.

The Borowski tradition began with patriarch Stanislaw Borowski. Already famous for his engraved glass and glass sculptures, he founded Glasstudio Borowski in Germany in 1990. He was joined by his sons Wiktor, Pawel, and Stanislaw Jan in the creation of bold, oneof- a-kind objets d’art.
