CAPT. PERYAM’S BAGGAGE

Bob_peryam_2AN ANGUISHED MOTHER’S COMPLAINT THAT
CANDIDATE
FOR SHERIFF BOB PERYAM NOT ONLY
HAD A SEXUAL AFFAIR WITH HER
Courtney_kelley21-YEAR-OLD
DAUGHTER, HE ALSO ALLEGEDLY ORDERED HIS
DEPUTIES TO HARASS OTHER MEMBERS OF THE
FAMILY. SHE TOLD UNDERSHERIFF THAT SHE
CAUGHT PERYAM AND THE YOUNG WOMAN “IN
THE ACT” IN HER HOME. NEIGHBORS SAW THEM
NECKING IN HIS PATROL CAR

BELOW IS THE DOCUMENTATION— OFFICIAL
RECORDS PROVIDED BY THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE.

SHERIFF’S INVESTIGATION ENDED WITHOUT
CLEARING PERYAM

Capt. Bob Peryam, a 27-year veteran with the Monroe
County Sheriff’s Office and a candidate for Sheriff this
year, is seen here with young Courtney Kelley. Two
years ago, Dee Kelley, Courtney’s mother, complained
to Sheriff Rock Roth that Peryam and Courtney were
having an affair and that when Courtney had been
arrested after a fight with her father, she had asked
Peryam to “get” her father and brother.

Subsequently,
according to a written statement by Mrs. Kelley, deputies
began to harass Courtney’s father and
brother. Peryam denies any
wrongdoing. Sheriff Roth
hired a private detective to
conduct an investigation,
but that investigation was
closed without a conclusion.

Page_1_4 Page 1 (click here to open pdf document) is part of the actual
first page of the sheriff’s special
investigation report concerning the allegations against
Capt. Peryam. The Sheriff had to hire a retired state investigator to
conduct the investigations because Capt. Peryam’s wife is in charge of internal
affairs at the sheriff’s office.

Commentary by
Dennis Reeves Cooper

We here at Key West The Newspaper
broke this story last April.
But excerpts from the actual official
records from Sheriff Roth’s files have
never been published before— here
or anywhere else.

The excerpt of the official investigation
report, above, documents that
Mrs. Kelley told Undersheriff Rick
Ramsay that she had caught Peryam
and her young daughter in a “sexual
act” in her home.

Peryam says that these allegations
were somehow “concocted”
after he announced that
he was running for sheriff. But
the sheriff’s investigative report
notes that Mrs. Kelley came
forward back in 2005— well
before Peryam was running
for sheriff.

We’re from the Government and We’re Here to Help

by Matt Gardi

There is no question that
the world financial markets are
in it knee deep these days, and
that the effects are being felt
from Wall Street to Duval Street.
To that end, it seems you have
to wear safety glasses to survive
the finger pointing going on
searching for blame.

That being said, I had
to extend a proverbial digit
myself the other day as I read
an article in the Key West Citizen
by Mandy Bolen entitled,
“Program enables city to recycle
foreclosures.” Essentially the
article discussed how excited
Jeff Sharkey, the city’s affordable
housing consultant, is to
spend a portion of federal tax
dollars earmarked for Florida as
a result of the Housing Bailout.

The intent is to buy foreclosed
properties and “create” affordable
housing. You would have
thought Mr. Sharkey had just
won the cover all at the Green
Parrot Bingo.

Let me make sure I have
this straight.

Letters

McKee: I’ll Make My
Own Decision About
Hurricane Evacuation

Dear Editor,

In reply to Bob Rowley’s
letter about hurricane evacuation.
OK Rhonda be Chicken
Little…. but I have to agree with
Bob…after 15 years here, and
well studying the storm history
of Key West.

And also there is virtually
NOTHING I agree with Ed
Swift about, but evacuation….
certainly not his head strong
costing the City MILLION (still
potentially) driving the not
actually competing Duck Tour
out of town.

But lets get back to
storms… What hit and devastated
Galveston was in strength
NO WORSE, than Georges here
in 98… near EXACT. 115 mph
sustained winds borderline
Cat 2/3, with gusts and mini
tornadoes well into Cat 4.
Yes we suffered MAJOR
wind damage… but surge
flood… very little…and Galveston
did…. now why might that
be???

Well we are a spec in a
little archipelago… with water
all around us…lots of slosh
room.

LETTERS: Unintended Electoral Consequences

Dear Editor,

I made a lot of mistakes when I voted in earlier years. Many times there were people on the ballot whose names were unfamiliar to me. I voted in those races anyway. I thought it was my obligation.

Sometimes I simply voted against the incumbent I did know, thinking “anyone has to be better.” Even someone who is drunk and delusional, or a child molestor? Fortunately my misguided vote was never enough to put one of these in office.

Rhonda
Q: How Many Frogs Does It Take to
Change a Light Bulb?

by Rhonda Linseman-Saunders

I may seem a little edgy, but I do have a soft
underbelly (Literally. And it gets softer every time I
have a baby).

Perhaps I am especially misunderstood regarding
my relationship with non-human animals. It is
true that I don’t like animals all that much, but only
in the sense that I am not inclined to pledge servitude
to one as my pet. The armchair psychologist in me
says it may stem from childhood experiences including
having been in the car with my mom when we
hit a dog. The dog didn’t die right away but it was
badly mangled. It was horrifying and I think I made
a mental note, at that point, never to love a dog, just
in case that would happen to it.

But I do respect all living creatures and I certainly
don’t go out of my way to reduce the planet’s animal
population, especially if I don’t plan to eat them once
they’re dead.
